About me

Hi everyone and welcome to O’Connor Online.

I am delighted to be able to share my thoughts and hear your views on the burning issues in the bright new world of renewable energy. I have felt passionate about renewable energy for more than a decade now ….the technology, the politics, the planet… and so on.

I have always worked in energy starting with the ESB (Ireland’s electricity company) where I finished up as Purchasing Manager in 1987. From 1987 to 1996, I held the position of Managing Director at Bord Na Mona (the Irish Peat Board). In 1997, I set up Airtricity, which was my first endeavour into the wind sector and renewable energy world. From 1997 to January 2008 the company moved to a leading global position in renewable energy.

I set up Mainstream Renewable Power with Fintan Whelan back in February 2008. Fintan and I had worked together in Airtricity and when we left, we decided to set-up Mainstream. It was Fintan’s wife, Carol, who thought up our company name which initially, we liked. And now, we love it! We are making renewable energy mainstream.

I hope that you enjoy my posts and I look forward to hearing from you as we move into a post fossil fuel world and secure energy resources in a clean and economically effective manner.
