Knockaneden wind farm awards funding to thirty one local community groups

Knockaneden wind farm, constructed and operated by Mainstream Renewable Power, has awarded €9,000 to local community initiatives in the fourth year of its annual community fund awards. The wind farm which is located in the townland of Knockaneden, County Kerry has entered its fifth year of commercial operation.

This year 31 local organisations and initiatives received funding including care groups, community groups, local event organisations, sports clubs and schools.

Speaking at the awarding of the funds, Mainstream’s Operations Manager for Ireland, Barry Nelson said: “Once again we are pleased that this annual community funding award is so well received and continues to make such a positive difference across a diverse range of worthwhile community initiatives.”

Breda O’Shea of Caherciveen Festival of Music & the Arts welcomed this year’s funding: “Caherciveen Festival of Music & the Arts would like to sincerely thank Knockaneden Wind Farm Community Fund for their continued support for the festival over the last number of years. Local input is vital for the continuation and sustainability of the festival and we are delighted to have Knockaneden Wind Farm as one of our contributors.“

Each year the wind farm invites applications for funding from not-for-profit community based projects/activities within a 10km radius of the wind farm. Economic, social, cultural and educational projects from all aspects of community are considered. Preference is given to projects which have an environmental theme or are linked to sustainable local activities.
