Mainstream opened its office in Manila in 2016 and is headed up by Ray Rysbergen, our VP Business Development. The local team are working on a number of late-stage development opportunities in wind and solar PV across the Philippines.
The Philippines has a population of over 100 million people and an installed capacity of just around 20GW, illustrating significant scope for growth of electricity generation. It is expected that the electricity consumption in the Philippines will grow by 4.4% per year until 2030, which will require a further 90GW of installed capacity. The Philippines target is to source 15GW of renewable capacity by 2030 of which around 2.3GW is expected to come from wind.
